"Lest Haply We Drift Away from Them"

"Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things that were heard, lest haply we drift away from them."

Hebrews 2:1
American Standard Version

There is a method to everything.
When we achieve our goals it is always because of preparation. Because we were well prepared. We did what we had to do and we designed the best methods to achieve our goals.

These methods required special efforts. Attention to detail. Energy. Burning the midnight oil. You name it. Then we accomplished what we had previously imagined.
And then after it we sometimes forget about the methods. Drift away from them.

Remember a time when you succeeded in doing something that was important to you.
Remember how it felt.
Remember how it filled you up with lots of positive energy.
Remember the journey toward that goal.

When you set your sights on a particular goal, remember these feelings. And remember also the methods you used when in the past you achieved your goals. Repeat the process, repeat the methods.
Repeat the preparation. Repeat the attention to detail. The energy. Those nights spent working on a project. Remember this. And repeat. And when you reach your goal again, set a new goal. Immediately. Because we humans tend to get lazy.

Have you reached a goal? Set a new one and start a new journey. Who knows which journey can change your life...

There is joy in reaching your destination. But the journey toward it is immensely more exciting. Sometimes tiring, sometimes frustrating, sometimes downright lethal but still, immensely more exciting.

"Be Not Anxious How or What Ye Shall Speak: for It Shall Be Given You"

"But when they deliver you up, be not anxious how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that hour what ye shall speak."

Matthew 10:19
American Standard Version

It is no use worrying about something that has not happened yet or that will happen in the future. Or not.
Oftentimes we spend our time being anxious about things that are out of our control or that will happen in the future, if they happen at all.

Worry is a silent killer. It causes loads of illnesses, ruins relationships and lives.

We often like to think that stress and worrying is an illness that is characteristic of our age.
According to the Bible, it was present in ancient times, too. I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out it is part of our collective human consciousness.

The Bible gives us a remedy though. The belief that when something happens, you'll have everything to do your best. Actually, you have everything you need. God has given you everything that is necessary to live your life.

How can you stop worrying? Preparation is key. When you worry about something that you are unfamiliar with, preapare yourself. Gather information. Imagine the worst possible outcome of the situation and accept it. Yes, accept it. By accepting it, worry somehow loses its power.

When you say goodbye to worrying, you open up possibilities for yourself.
And you'll seize upon these possibilities to create the life you've always wanted for yourself.

"Rejoice Always"

"Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus to you-ward."

1 Thessalonians 5:16,17
American Standard Version

Keeping the faith is crucial to keep going.
We can have faith by keeping up our good cheer and expressing our thanks through prayer and through our actions.

We, human beings, tend to take almost everything for granted. We think that just because we have something or have achieved something that's ours and will be ours for the taking. It is part of human nature, we crave stability and mostly abhor change.

That is the reason why it is doubly important to give thanks for everything you have in your life now. In good and in bad times, too.
Giving thanks is partly paying back the good fortune God has given us by the mere fact that we are alive.

Try it today. When something good happens or when you feel good, or you eat or drink something delicious or you read or hear or see something good, give thanks. Just say thank you.
And that will give an extra special something to the already great moments.

"This Man Shall Be Blessed in His Doing"

"But he that looketh into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and so continueth, being not a hearer that forgetteth but a doer that worketh, this man shall be blessed in his doing."

James 1:25
American Standard Version

We are free, free by God to be who we want to be.

Some people know their life's purpose at a very early age. Some people find it later in life, realizing that what they have always wanted to become was, in fact, always in front of their very eyes.

Just like the young Andalusian shepherd in Paulo Coelho's novel, The Alchemist. The young lad finds the treasure that he was looking for right in the place where he started the long journey to find it.

When we are children, we instinctively know what is good for us and what we are good at.
We reveal our strengths and our calling when we play.
Some kids play with cars, some kids play doctor games, some kids organize small groups to play together, some kids play the shopkeeper, the florist, some kids play with dolls and give them character.  There are a thousand different ways we play when we are kids.

Some people say God loves those who remain kids at heart. Oftentimes we, as adults forget what is really important.

When you do something, do your work and forget the world around you, you are so absorbed in what you do, you are in the "flow". The flow, as the famous Hungarian psychologist, Mihály Csíkszentmihályi recognised and named this state of mind, is basically the moment, or moments when you are true to yourself. When you do what you were born to do. If you have a job, a work like that, God bless your heart and work and just keep doing it.

When you don't, keep looking. You are closer to the solution than you'd think.

Each one of us is different. There are no two identical people in this world. We are unique, each and every one of us. You are unique. We just forget it.

It is our God given destiny to explore who we are and what is our true self. What work is ours, how we can best serve mankind and our fellow travelers in this great big journey called life.

"Written Not with Ink, but with the Spirit of the Living God"

"written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in tables that are hearts of flesh."

2 Corinthians 3:3
American Standard Version

We have been living in a distrusting society for quite a while now and we tend to give special importance to the written word.
This is only natural because this is the safest course of action and humans yearn for safety.

Have you noticed that what is really important, you do not write it down, you just feel it inside?
Words a lot of times are not sufficient to express the things, thoughts, feelings that really count.
Authors, philosophers, whose profession is the written word sometimes manage to capture what we feel in our heart.
But what is felt universally is when someone does something with the Spirit.

What you give your Spirit to, lives inside of you and at the same time projects positivity to the outside world.
And you feel it. Even if it is just an insignificant tiny little mundane task, when you give your Real Spirit to it, something extraordinary happens.

The Real Spirit is the guiding force of our world. You can find it everywhere you go.
It's up to you to connect with your Real Spirit.

"That Ye May Be Able to Endure It"

"There hath no temptation taken you but such as man can bear: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation make also the way of escape, that ye may be able to endure it."

1 Corinthians 10:13
American Standard Version

Endurance is a trait seldom mentioned this day and age – except maybe for condom and tyre commercials.

How can we practice endurance? I read this in a book and found it enlightening: you endure by enduring. We practice endurance by putting ourselves through situations we would have never thought possible.

God is with us every moment of our life.
Everything happens for a reason although we might not know exactly the reason why when something bad happens to us. But good and bad are merely a way of looking at things.

So if you want to endure, do it by enduring.

Start with the small things. And then one day you'll be able to do something fantastic.

Go and do something that you previously thought you would never be able to accomplish. Think big, because the old adage: go big or go home has never been more true than now.
To go big, start small. Every journey starts with one small step.

"And They Understood"

"And when they saw him, they were astonished; and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I sought thee sorrowing. And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? knew ye not that I must be in my Father’s house? And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them."

Luke 2: 48-50
American Standard Version

Words can have a lot of different meanings.
What we say and what we actually think and mean can be completely different things.
What people actually say is the tip of the iceberg.

Hence the saying, when you know someone really well, you understand that what is not said with words. You don't need words, you understand everything perfectly well.

We don't know that well all the people with whom we get to meet. So it is important to try and understand other people. Try and understand what they don't say. It is no easy task.

Once you succeed in doing it most of the time (perfection exists only in two places: cheesy romance novels and in the rigid school system), you'll have a much easier life.

Just try one simple exercise, when someone who is not close to you (albeit it works with family members, too) says something. Translate the message to yourself using this magic sentence: "In other words it means: ...". Beware though that this is not a "cure-all-panacea". Some people are just really hard to understand. Or you just don't click. Or anything else.

Still, this magic sentence will help you most of the time when you feel that you don't understand what is being said.

This will make it easier to understand what people want to say. Not that they want to hide anything or want to purposefully hurt you, no, they just can't find the right words.
Few peeople are really good at conveying what they really want to say.

Communication is one of the most difficult things we humans do. And it is tricky because it seems so easy. It is not.
But from now on, it is going to be easier for you. Think of this simple exercise and a lot of times it will help you to understand other humans better.

Look on the bright side, what you will understand when you decipher the real meaning of what another person wants to say, a whole new world will open up to you. You'll be able to better understand the people you come in contact with, your connection with people will be better.

"The Tree of Life, Which Is in the Paradise of God"

"He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches. To him that overcometh, to him will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the Paradise of God."

Revelations 2:7
American Standard Version

It takes patience and perseverance to understand what is important to hear and what is not.

Listening is an underrated skill. Too many times when we are in a conversation, we are caught up in what we want to say. We have no or little patience for other people's messages.
We just wait reluctantly until the other person finishes with their message and then we start what we want to say. Make no mistake, the other person does not listen either to what we have to say.

It's a curious thing, this listening skill. Why is it so undervalued in our society?
It might stem from the fact that the person who does not speak much is usually considered not too bright. Successful people are usually considered to be the ones who speak often and eloquently.

There is one little known fact: really successful people learn to listen. Listening efficiently and well.
The listen especially to hidden messages, things the other person does not want to say.
And these people usually catch those rare social occasions when another person really speaks his/her mind.

If we want to understand the world and have a great life for ourselves, one of the most important skills is the skill of active listening. Listening for what motivates the other person, what makes them tick, what is important to them, who they actually are. And then we can connect with that other person. These are real connections.

Listening for the Spirit, listening for what is important and cannot be seen.
Just try it, today. When you speak with another person, focus on what they are saying, what they mean by their words and what message they want to convey. Don't think about your answer when they are speaking. Just listen to the other person and try to connect with their soul. Chances are, your answer will be more to the point, the other person will like the conversation much better and you'll have more fun.

Listening is a hidden gem. It does not take much to practice it. Listening is the key to other people.

"According to the Truth of the Gospel"

"But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Cephas before them all, If thou, being a Jew, livest as do the Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, how compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?"

Galatians 2:14
American Standard Version

When we know what we want, when we are sure of ourselves, it is inside of us.
What really counts is in the inside. We know it and we act accordingly.

We don't want to force our thoughts and actions on anyone. If other people find these things useful, they might choose to make them their own, too and it is a choice then.

To live according to the truth of the gospel is to live according to choice. According to what's inside. That's the truth. Only you can change yourself. And when you do, that's the truth.

"Be of Good Cheer"

"And the night following the Lord stood by him, and said, Be of good cheer"

Acts 23:11
American Standard Version

It is better to be of good cheer, if for nothing else than to have prettier wrinkles over 40.
Time passes by when you are of good cheer and time passes by even when you are not of good cheer.
Time is the great leveller. Time does not care if we are smiling or not. But I guess you do care.
And when you care then you know you are on the right track.

"The Glory of His Grace"

"to the praise of the glory of his grace, which he freely bestowed on us in the Beloved:"

Ephesians 1:6
American Standard Version

Giving is a form of art.
There is a fine line between giving freely, enjoying it for the sake of it and then giving away something valuable and then being used afterwards. This usually occures when the guidelines are not clear.

Giving is just giving. The secret to giving really freely from the bottom of your heart is giving and then moving along. Problems start to arise when we give and then we expect something in return and we do not say it openly.

When you give freely, then give freely without strings attached. Give for the sake of giving, enjoy the moment then move on.

When you give and then expect something in return, say it openly.
Yes, some people will be offended. Why? There might be a thousand different explanations. I guess deep inside they would have been in it just for the free ride and that's why they are offended by your honesty.

This is a simple task. When you give, decide beforehand if you want something in return or not.

In the first case, when you want something in return, let the other party know about it Being upfront and honest has its downsides. You might even run the risk of being labeled "anti-social". But in the long run everyone likes to deal with people who say what they mean.

In the second case, when you don't want anything in return, then just give freely and that's that.
Don't expect anything and if the other party returns your act of kindness, just be happy about it.
Give just for the fun of it and give fully knowing that you might get nothing in return. In fact that is the most possible scenario. You still do it.

The most important thing is to know which case you want to choose and act accordingly. Your life will get much simpler.

"Wherefore If Any Man Is in Christ, He Is a New Creature"

"Wherefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature: the old things are passed away; behold, they are become new."

2 Corinthians 5: 17
American Standard Version

The old and the new often intertwine.
When we believe in something, when we choose a new path, when we decide on something new, we change. We are a new creature. And this change does not necessarily have to be a huge one.

Even small changes in our daily routine make us a new person.
What makes you a new person is anything you do that is new, anything that is outside the ordinary.

"Nihil sub sole novum." There is nothing new under the sun.

You keep what is good from the old and then create something new.
For this, you need belief and rebirth. Being born again. You are not a newborn but you are born again. Slowly but surely your new life starts to unfold. And you become new.

"For We Walk by Faith, Not by Sight"

"for we walk by faith, not by sight"

2 Corinthians 5: 7

American Standard Version

You instinctively know what is right for you.
We can be useful and able when we are completely aligned with our true calling.

Have you seen people who force themselves to act and live in a way that deep inside they don't like?
They have chosen that path because of a number of different factors, chief among them: what would others think? Their days are filled with sadness and sighs. Their life seems a neverending repetition of insipid days on autopilot. Outwardly they can seem "normal". When you scratch the surface, the truth comes out. Their life is a lie and the most important person they are lying to: themselves.

On the other hand, have you seen people who are true to their destiny?
Their happiness and fulfillment is visible, you can feel it.

They dedicate themselves to their life, to their work, the profession of their choosing and their loved ones. This dedication is filled with passion yet somehow it has a dispassionate streak. Because these people have a goal and they are constantly moving toward what they see with their mind's eye.

What do you see when you close your eyes?

"It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye."

"We Have a Building from God, a House Not Made with Hands, Eternal"

"For we know that if the earthly house of our tabernacle be dissolved, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal, in the heavens."

2 Corinthians 5: 1
American Standard Version

What is your building from God? What do you consider eternal?

A building from God can be anything we believe in. Something that is stronger and more everlasting than anything else. It can be something to live for and to die for.

A building from God cannot be seen but it can be felt.
Eternal just like life. Although according to esteemed scientists the Sun will blow up and with it our Earth too, in approximately 4 billion years' time. But the life, this life we have on Earth, surely it has a meaning and it won't just dissolve into nothing. Or will it?

Even when something is destroyed and it fills you with sorrow, there is always the building from God you can turn to.

There must be some things that are eternal. That give us hope and strength and a reason to live.

"And Shall Not Doubt in His Heart"

"Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou taken up and cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that what he saith cometh to pass; he shall have it."

Mark 11: 23
American Standard Version

Doubt kills more dreams than natural disasters, enemies, catastrophes and mothers-in-law.

Doubt is the single biggest factor responsible for dreams flushed down the drain.
Doubt kills. Full stop.

Doubt, self-doubt exists. It comes from the fear of failure.
Fear of failure? We are not born with it, it gets imprinted in our mind as we go through the school system. School systems want perfection. But perfection does not exist at least not in the way they want it.

Failure is an integral part of the learning process. Of any learning process. Failure is natural. Failure is the proof that you are learning something new.
Remember, when you learned how to stand up and walk or how to ride a bycicle, you stumbled and fell. Quite a lot of times. According to the school system, that was failure. And still you kept going. And now you can walk. And ride a bike.

When you want to do something and you really want to do it, do it. Go for it. What happens if you don't succeed? Big whoop, you'll try it once more. Once more. And once more. Or not. Or you try different approaches.

When you want something, do it. Imagine yourself already doing that thing or having that thing that you really want. And then go for it.
"If you can dream it, you can do it."
Walt Disney

"All Things Are Possible to Him That Believeth"

"And Jesus said unto him, If thou canst! All things are possible to him that believeth."

Mark 9: 23
American Standard Version

Seeing is believing. First you believe and then you see.
Belief is the single most important step toward your goals.

Since we are human beings, not Jesus Christ, son of God, we need to also do something for what we believe in. Actions are important. Even Jesus acted upon his belief system although he was no ordinary man, the son of God. Without acting upon your belief system, you'll miss the target.

Actions are necessary. Actions with belief, backing them up.

Actions without belief are superfluous. Actions without belief often backfire. Actions without belief are empty. They lack substance.

First we think of something. An idea. A modicum of an idea. Then we either dissuade ourselves and discard the mere thought of acting upon it. Or.
You start to believe – first in yourself then in your actions. All the big achievements of humankind started with a person who believed. And then acted upon it.

You don't have to think big although thinking big has its advantages. Even the small things in our life will gain a special meaning and that extra mile when we do them with belief. With the belief that we are the best, the most well-suited people to do that particular thing and do that – with belief.

And when we do even the simplest task with belief, we exert a special effort to do that thing. It fills us with a sense of achievement. And that sense of achievement is worth more than you have ever imagined. It gives you energy. Energy that will turn into more belief and more actions – with belief and with a sense of achievement, fulfillment.

"But Jesus Held His Peace"

"And they that had taken Jesus led him away to the house of Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were gathered together. 58 But Peter followed him afar off, unto the court of the high priest, and entered in, and sat with the officers, to see the end. 59 Now the chief priests and the whole council sought false witness against Jesus, that they might put him to death; 60 and they found it not, though many false witnesses came. But afterward came two, 61 and said, This man said, I am able to destroy the [ac]temple of God, and to build it in three days. 62 And the high priest stood up, and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee? 63 But Jesus held his peace."

Matthew 26: 57-63
American Standard Version

Peace of mind is an essential factor in our life.
Bear in mind that a lot of people and circumstances will try and take it away from you. It is more so when you set your sights high – and even higher.

Jesus could hold his peace, could keep his peace of mind in a dire situation.
His own people wanted to kill him, make him a victim. They used every conceivable and unconceivable tool at their disposal to reach their goal. For instance making other people, in this case, Pilate, do the dirty work for them. And did they succeed in this "endeavour"!

"But Jesus held his peace."
You might not face such a catastrophic situation but still, everyday problems have a tendency to try to destroy our peace of mind.

It is okay to lose your temper from time to time. It is okay to lose your motivation from time to time.
It is okay to feel desperate and helpless from time to time.

After all, we are humans.

When you slip, forgive yourself. Don't be so hard on yourself.
And then think of these instances as part of the learning process.

Think about your peace of mind. Your peace of mind is yours. That core that is yours.
That core that helps you through good and bad times, too. Make your today and tomorrow great!

And then, as Scarlett O'Hara says in Gone With the Wind:
"Tomorrow is another day."
